Drabble
My response to
staringiscaring's Angel drabble request in this thread, with the prompt being:
Cordelia, future, on a different path.
Title: Thirty
Character: Cordelia
Spoilers: Birthday
At thirty, Cordelia Chase is still number one. Her show, Cordy, has had a successful eight-season run, and unlike long-running shows that usually go with nary a whimper hers still managed to end as a winner in the ratings war.
At thirty, Cordelia Chase's movie offers keep pouring in. She gets to pick her co-stars, her leading man. Plot not to her liking? Tweak it according to Ms. Chase's whims. Director too artsy for her taste? Fire him. Pfft, Peter Jackson who?
At thirty, Cordelia Chase still wonders what would have happened if she actually went to that address she found at the Hyperion Hotel. Reseda, it said. Practically the ninth circle of hell in the middle of nowhere. She almost reached that address, too, if it hadn't been for that phone call she received from her manager, with him demanding that she haul her gorgeous ass back to LA pronto. Something about signing contracts for her show and breast-cancer PSA she needed to do now.
She wonders why it still bugs her, why the heck she still cares, after all this time. After nine long years.
At thirty, Cordelia Chase still asks her assistant, "Nev, you ever get that nagging feeling that you're supposed to be somewhere, doing something, but you can't remember what?"
"No, Miss Chase. I'm highly organized, which is why you hired and kept me."
At thirty, Cordelia Chase still feels as though she left the oven on.
Somewhere.

anythingbutgrey's prompt, Angel/Cordelia, You drop a coin into the sea, and shout out "Please come back to me" and
eleusis_walks's Angel/Cordelia, and you said something that i've never forgotten, though :P ALSO I highly recommend reading the drabbles already posted there, and for people to request ones that they want written, too!

Anyway! I liked this. It definitely expresses the feeling you're going for. I like that nagging, back-of-the-mind what-if regret, and the sense it carries that Fate is out there lurking somewhere, making itself known even if it's somewhat thwarted.

But! Thank you so much ♥
