Yeah, I think for me though, most of the time I think that there's more fics that have that special something when I first join a fandom than they do later -- but that's because first of all, when I first join a fandom, unless it's completely new (and that's only been the Glee fandom for me) there's already a back-log of great fics for me to read. In addition, I am more willing to think that a story has that something extra before I've read a hundred more with the same pairing. So not it's not that the earlier stories are better (though many of them are good), it's that I've become more... critical and I demand more than that little extra I was happy with in the beginning, because while the stories are different, it's still the same pairing. And I'm like this in all my fandoms - and it only becomes worse if or when I start writing for it.
