The closest thing to a Megumi/Nago ship manifesto that I can create.
Just kiss gadamit.
Ugh! This is the problem with shipping people together in an unfinished series. In D/Hr I lived for moments of them together in the book or on screen, and I squeeeeeee shamelessly whenever I see these moments. You know they're not going to end up together, but some teeny part of you hopes that, hey - the series is not finished yet, maybe JKR will pull off a miracle and get them together in the end. This was my belief around the era when the OoTP book was published.
Now though, with Kamen Rider Kiva... Megumi! Nago! When will you get over your hate of each other and actually... you know... admit your love of each other on screen! THOUGH I WILL PROBABLY ABANDON SHIPPING YOU TWO TOGETHER ONCE YOU ARE TOGETHER!!!
NOW IMAGE-HEAVY. Because I just had to populate it with images.
See, this is what I looooooooove about Kiva. I got hooked because of Nago and Megumi, but oh-so-slowly I've come to love Wataru, Otoya, (his "NARUHODO!!!!" line in Ep 6 really got me giggling over him), Jirou, Riki, Ramon... Yuri I still have reservations, but the rest = OMG I love you all. Except you, Rook, because Ep 17 broke my heart. Hmm.
Anyway. Let me get back to squeeing over Nago and Megumi.
Nago is this psycho-assed bounty hunter who believes that he can create a perfect world. He HATES sinners and wrong-doers and also has daddy-issues because he drove his own father to commit suicide. He sees himself as perfection personified (lol Draco) and is more or less a know-it-all who feels he is intellectually superior to all (lol Hermione).
Megumi is a model by day, Fangire (demon) hunter by night, who is bent on avenging her mother's death. She's a loud, unsophisticated (though her clothes and profession would say otherwise), brave young woman. She reluctantly works with Nago in the Wonderful Aozora Organization.
Now comes the fun part.
They hate each other - or rather, Megumi hates Nago and Nago thinks Megumi is vastly inferior to him. She constantly berates him for having this need to look down on everyone and thinks he is a nutcase.
Nago, on the other hand, tends to not let Megumi get in the way of the things he does, and usually belittles her worth as a fighter and her abilities and considers her waaaaay beneath him.
(lol the sub in the last two pics can be a typical conversation between them, actually)
They often clash over a lot of things - Wataru, IXA, oh, the world, to name a few - and they say reallllllly hurtful things about and to each other that the viewers (Me, actually) tend to think there's something going on between them.
Some notable moments for them:
In Ep 4, Nago admits to Shima (their boss) that he really likes her.
Told you so. Notice the creepy smile. ARE YOU TELLING THE TRUTH???
In Ep 5, Nago was stalking the stalker who was stalking Megumi.
Jealous?
In Ep 7, Nago brings her flowers when she was in the hospital - red roses, no less!
Also notable in this episode - their investigation which is NOT a date. Megumi actually asked Wataru to go with her, but Nago suddenly had something for Wataru to do - thus, he ends up as her NOT-DATE partner. THAT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY AND CONVENIENTLY WELL, DIDN'T IT NAGO.
Did I tell you that this was actually THE shipper episode for these two?
Notice how Nago is surprised at Megumi's appetite.
And of course he won't let a chance like this pass without him belittling her!
And Megumi's eloquent answer to that?
Which only leads to this:
Predictably.
In Ep 9, Megumi tries to work her charm on Nago to let her use the IXA system by taking him out to lunch - but, being an ass, he refused. And even told her:
Jerk.
Also, I have a feeling Nago is afraid of something on his plate right in this scene. Notice how far he is from the table.
In Ep 11, Megumi is training herself to prove that she is capable of being IXA. Out of the blue, Nago comes to train with her, even boost her morale.
But she doesn't believe this crap. She tells him the reason he wants to be IXA is...
In Ep 19, they really worked as a team to beat the Fangire. Not sure why the sudden change in work ethics, but all is good as long as they are working together!
Which prompts Kengo to say:
That would be correct, Kengo-san!
In Ep 20, after Megumi recovered from her fake illness, she showed everyone her awesomeness by saving Kengo and Nago and even doing something HUGE:
She had IXA in her hands.... but gave it to Nago.
Nago is amused. His creepy smile, let me show you it.
In Ep 21, when Kengo proposed that he will take Nago to a group date as payment, he initially refuses - until Megumi decides to come too and even invites Wataru to go with her.
Nago's change of heart in the scene is just... EPIC, I tell you.
In Ep 23, Megumi describes her ideal mate, and Wataru points out that she was describing Nago.
Which leads to her odd behavior for a few, um, seconds.
In Ep 25, Megumi was fixing shy!Wataru with shy!Mio, to Nago's extreme distaste:
And Megumi's gorgeous reaction to his preaching:
In Ep 26, Megumi tricks the Spider Fangire and says she wasn't his type - and moves to reveal Nago transforming to IXA (hahaha subtlety!)
In Ep 27, Nago will actually consider the possibility that Megumi didn't do the crime she was jailed for. Megumi, on the other hand, seems to be really hurt that Nago doesn't believe her.
YES I REALLY HAD TO COVER ALL THESE EPISODES. There may be one or two I missed, though.
You must be thinking, why, you've only shown us points where they HATE each other! What about points where they're all lovey-dovey? Hate to break it to you kids but none of that's happening. YET. We're only halfway through the series and a lot can still happen.
Well at this point, though, the fact that Megumi likes Nago can be derived from her subconsciously describing him as her perfect guy. The next moment they spent together, ALONE, was in Ep 27 when she was helping Nago do some exercise and she actually praised him without being sarcastic:
This may not be a huge thing, but given their background, I'd say it is. As far as I can remember, this is the only scene where she was pretty nice to him without having an ulterior motive. It is also in this episode where, despite the many, many times Nago criticizes and basically insults her, we see that this time he can actually hurt her. She can bear everything he throws at her face before, but MAYBE when she realized that she liked him (...), this was when things got personal. The fact that Megumi also faces jail-time and Nago's testimony about her being innocent can get her acquitted also helps, too.
Nago is a bit harder to read, though. As I've said, in the episode where he said he likes her, it may be construed as him lying - which, despite his righteousness, he is capable of doing. The nice things he did for her (like bringing her flowers) can also be seen as something he did to make sure she stays out of his way. Who could forget his meanness in Ep 13 - when he pushed Megumi not once but twice? However, there are unexplained circumstances about his behavior around her - Ep 21 is a classic example of that. In Ep 7 he really didn't have to bring flowers when he visited but he did. He could have ignored Megumi's efforts to help him finish the Fangire they were fighting in Ep 20 but he allowed her to deliver the finishing move:
These little things made me think that, despite his beliefs he was actually making an exception for Megumi. Maybe he does really like her because she's the only one who can stand up to him regardless of what he says to her. Maybe he likes her for her spunk and courage and hides it beneath a verrrry thick layer of arrogance. MAYBE he is trying to groom her to be his perfect wife in his perfect world - but at this stage, only time will tell.
Some fics:
Pygmalion 2 by
Uneven by me - There were several things worse than going to a photo shoot with a slightly injured ankle, courtesy of an attack gone wrong last night.
Submissive by me - Nago Keisuke was used to having people either cow in fear or bow in awe of him. That was, until Asou Megumi.
If there are other fics in this fandom I would LOVE to hear about it. That way I don't have to recommend my own stuff. TELL ME!!!!

At this point Nago's so unreadable (to me, anyway) that it's difficult to tell what he wants - and even if he were to approach Megumi romantically, it's equally difficult to tell how she'd react, whether she'd respond positively or negatively. I mean, I pretty much assume they do like each other but whether they could ever translate it into a real relationship is something I can't figure out and it really fascinates me, you know? ♥
no subject
As much as I am a sucker for love/hate relationships, this time it's a bit complicated. Nago is just... I don't know. Layered, maybe? I mean, we basically know zilch about him at this point, except what he did to his father, but why he's so justice-driven still eludes us. For all we know, what he's doing to Megumi (constantly criticizing her) is already his way of showing how much he loves her (haha!)
Megumi probably has a clearer idea of what she feels but will fight hard to control or keep it inside, since she knows Nago and believes he will just use her feelings to further humiliate her. Nago... I'm not sure about him. I'm not even sure how he can shift from how he is right now to a romantically-inclined man who's actually willing to forgive Megumi's shortcomings.

One of the things I really, really like about the past episodes is that oh-so-slowly they're trying to change Nago. I mean, sure, he's still a self-righteous jerk and all, but... heh. Ep 27 just has a huge impact on me. I know I've said this about three times or more now, but something about his willingness to actually consider Megumi innocent of the crime she's jailed for just screams BIG CHANGEEEEE to me. Of course he has to annoy her first ("as a bounty hunter, I wish I were the one who caught you"), but... still. BIG CHANGEEEE!
Which makes me think, what if Megumi really was a thief and Nago caught her?
no subject
That is a fic I would dearly love to read. *___* There are two ways I can imagine it going; either Nago would just treat her as he would treat any other criminal or he'd attempt to take responsibility for her the way he seems to do with Wataru, and be on her back night and day trying to "reform" her.
no subject
BUT THE THOUGHT IS SO SAAAAD.
I'm still speculating why Nago became this way. I'll bet it has something to do with his mother.
And the FIC! OMG. So many possibilities that will eventually boil down to what you said. I have a feeling, though, that it'd be a combination of the two - like he'll treat her as a criminal but instead of taking her to the police he will imprison her in his house and that's where he will reform her.
...and I do believe something rated NC-17 just popped in right there.
no subject
I'm so glad you brought up the NC-17 thing, because I thought it was just me thinking it. :D

About the nago/Megumi "relationship", I pretty much agree with you; he likes her but dont wanna admit it...
Sorry for the intrusion anyway:-)

You know what, I've never thought about the whole "Nago and his buttons" situation... but thanks to you both, I'm pretty interested to know what his deal is, anyway. Though I agree with you about him bringing his dad to justice as the reason he has his button. I can't bear it if he killed his dad T___T

...and sometimes, even Megumi's hair defy all gravity too.

As for in Ep 9, when Nago isn't close to the table, it's been guessed by many that the little tiny chair he was sitting in was too small for him and his ass (the literal one) and that's why he was shuffling around.

p.s. I'm trying to write a Nago/Megumi fic with the prompt photograph, while trying to not be too fluffly and still keep them in character? Help, please?
no subject
Thank you! I had to satisfy my shipper heart and that was why I wrote this. It's soooo sad that the fandom has very limited love for this pairing T___T
Photograph? Hmmm... the first thing that came to my mind was, Megumi still fixing Wataru up with Mio - like she's doing a photo shoot of the 2, and she's trying to get them to pose as close to each other as possible - but Nago is there and, you know, does his thing. The end could be that Wataru snaps his own picture of Nago and Megumi while they are fighting :P
Orrr... do you already have an idea in mind? Maybe I can help you elaborate that instead :D

and it so obvious Megu also like him when Wataru&Mio ask which type of guy she like and it obviously Nago^^

Nago × Megumi, I admit, is one of the reasons why I keep up with the show (besides Kivat-bat, the bath buddy). Nago is pretty hard to read; some of the times he acts like he likes Megumi, other times he acts as if he wants nothing to do with her. However, I think Megumi may be realizing she does like Nago... somewhat.
Wasn't it in the episode where Megumi joins the IKEMENS, she is suddenly attacked by the crazy Spider Fangire and Nago comes to help her first? ♥ And also, in episode 20, Megumi told Nago she'd let him keep IXA "for now" and Nago let her use his IXA Calibur to fight the Fangire... but in the recent episodes, Megumi seems as if she still hasn't gotten over the fact that Nago has IXA... :/

This is why I love his character - he's consistent with a lot of things but he's so inconsistent with how he acts around Megumi. That in itself makes us wonder why why why??? With Megumi... yep, you're right. I guess it can be blamed on the lack of focus on them after the greatness that is Ep 23, but Ep 27 is just, for me, something that can attest to Megumi's liking of Nago. Like her complimenting him and the fact that she was hurt by his disbelief in her innocence.
And also, in episode 20, Megumi told Nago she'd let him keep IXA "for now" and Nago let her use his IXA Calibur to fight the Fangire...
Yep :D One of the huge things I failed to cover. I'll fix that later, hehehe. Thanks for reminding me! I added that at the end but screencaps speak a thousand words :D
but in the recent episodes, Megumi seems as if she still hasn't gotten over the fact that Nago has IXA... :/
I'm not sure if she could ever get used to that fact. Maybe she could once Nago lets her use it just once? Hehe!

...but this is already a fanfic idea, ne? Hehehe.

Second. I loved this little look into the series. It looks like fun, I'm glad you're liking it. Do you know how much more of the show there is?
no subject
My main problem with this is that even if the characters are in love/together - like in many other fandoms I enjoy - if the series is unfinished, chances are they won't be through it all. They might be at the end again, sure, but yeah.
I knowwww T__T And Japanese shows, especially this genre, are sooooooo not keen on romance - primarily because their target audience are boys who don't give a flying sluck (hehehe) about people falling in love. ngtrghb. WORLD YOU ARE SO UNFAIR.
Thank you! If I'm not mistaken these shows last for 49 or more 30-mins per week episodes. We're still on ep 27, so 22 or so more - add to the fact that they're just supporting characters, sooooo... *sigh*
I really, really need to stop obsessing about couples with hate/hate relationships. SERIOUSLY.
no subject
Obsessing about couples with hate/hate relationships is awesome - all that heat and passion. They can't hate on each other forever so it's almost inevitable they end up in bed together. :P
no subject
I know! That's like the hottest way for people to get together - make them hate each other first :P
no subject
But, it should be fun.
Hopefully.
Why no internet? Or you just mean 'cause you won't have as much time to spend online?

Ack! School! I sorta miss going to school... heh. Those were the days. Have fun!

Thanks. I hope it won't kill me too much.

I will find a way to download them still... somehow!!! hahha :D
