A/N: (if applicable) I’m a coffee-lover myself, which is probably why I’m too acidic. Well, my mom made the connection between the two, and who am I to challenge her? *teehee* Which is no way relevant to the fic, I know! Written in under 30 minutes while my baby nephew is busting his lungs out. Poor baby :(
If there was one thing Hermione could never understand, it was Draco’s love for coffee.
Sure, ask the bastard to give up his pride, and he reluctantly would. Ask him to change his beliefs about mudbloods and society, and after a few years, he did. Ask him to revise his low opinion of Ron and Harry, and after insulting their intelligence and belittling their worth, Draco would later admit that he could.
But ask him to give up drinking coffee?
Oh. What a spectacle that would be.
Rather, what a spectacle that was. Hermione already did that, and how she was burned for it.
“I really don’t understand what the deal is with coffee, anyway,” she had said one afternoon, smiling and sipping her delicate tea. “I mean, it causes multiple health problems, stained teeth, probably even insomnia…”
Draco had stared at her, pale eyes piercing over the rim of his coffee cup. “Your point?”
She had shrugged. “Wouldn’t be better for you if you… oh I don’t know. Stop drinking it altogether? I mean it’s for your own good, in the end.”
He had turned an even pastier color, and his mouth momentarily formed an ‘O’ of surprise. “Stop…” he had muttered, his cup rattling as he tried to put it down. Black coffee had sloshed and spilled as the result of his carelessness. “Stop…!”
Alarmed, Hermione had frowned at him. “Draco, what—“
But he had gone to the deep end and ranted at the top of his lungs. “Have I ever tried to stop you in your indecent love affair with the library? No! Have I ever appealed to you to stop seeing your pathetic and disgusting friends? No! Have I ever asked you to give up drinking that infernally pale coffee-wannabe you call ‘tea’? NO! So don’t you dare tell me what to do! Don’t ask me to do something I could and would never do! Don’t ask me to give up drinking coffee because I won’t, ever! Ask me to die for you, ask me to be the father of your children, ask me to accept Weasley’s love child with you – but not that, never that!”
And he had walked out, after that spectacular speech.
Hermione had rolled her eyes, continued on with sipping her tea. Honestly. Sometimes – always, actually – Draco Malfoy could be such a blasted drama king.
That was two days ago. Until now, Draco had neither shown his presence nor attempted to communicate with her.
Not that Hermione would cave in. She was, after all, only thinking about his health in the long run! He was the one bound to suffer if he continued on with his caffeine addiction!
Five minutes later, she walked into her office, only to find something… odd, on her table.
Amidst her filled-up files and full folders, was a steaming cup of… something. Judging by the color and the aroma, it was coffee - aka Draco Malfoy’s mistress.
Hermione frowned. Just what was this thing doing here? She spotted a note underneath the saucer; opening that she read: “Just try it – D”
She sighed. He just wouldn’t give up on this issue, eh? Tentatively, she brought the cup closer to her mouth, debated on whether or not to drink it - after all, what could one sip do to a person? - and finally gave in and took a sip.
And then Hermione knew, in that moment, that she had irrevocably and unmistakably…
…fallen in love.
