Choices...choices
Sep. 5th, 2006 08:45 amLast night gave me one of the scariest experiences in my life. Since I lived in a condo, naturally a fire alarm was there, and at exactly 7:30 pm it began ringing unceasingly. I was reading and it took me a few seconds to realize what the sound was, and when I did... panic started settling in. I went out of the room to see a pool of other tenants with questioning and nervous looks on their faces. When I walked to the elevator, people were also there, hefting bags and other necessities and, well, it irritated me that people boarded the elevator when it is specifically clear that they shouldn't have done so in a fire! I went back to my room, grabbed my phone (to call my family and inform them), my journal, and my bag (which contained my money, ids and other important stuff).
I was ready to bolt, run down the stairs and run for my life. But, then, a man came to us and informed us that some stupid idiot poked his hand in the alarm and it was just a false... alarm.
GADAMIT.
Well, it was certainly an interesting night. I spent the remaining hours rethinking my actions. If ever it WAS a real fire, was I right in grabbing only the things that I did? I realized that I forgot grabbing really light but valuable things like jewelry...
So, flist, if you were in that situation (God forbid), what things would you grab for first?
