He never asks her if she's all right.

Instead, he places a cup of tea in front of her, and places his own directly across hers.

"What's this?" she asks him, frowning.

"Tea," he replies swiftly. She raises a brow at him; at her silent question of why he was giving her a cup he elaborates with, "I may have... brewed too much."

She doesn't need to know that there is still a whole pot of it on the stove, and that he plans to throw the whole thing down the drain or out the window. He would have done so if she hadn't woken up as early as she did.

"I didn't know you can brew," she says, and there's an odd quirk in her mouth then - like she was preventing herself from smiling.

He grimaces. "I don't." He had servants for that kind of thing, anyway - something she knew and could relate to, of course.

"Let's taste it, then." She brings the cup to her lips, sips - and winces.

--ah. He was watching her face carefully, and could read her expression as though she outright told him. Just as he's suspected; the tea he's brewed is defective, to say the least. "Too bitter?"
