Five Reasons Hyde and Moune Never Went Out Together for Ice Cream

One

"...Oniichan, look!" Moune pointed forward, then turned to look at Agri. "Isn't that Hyde, from the Seaick tribe?"

Her brother squinted and frowned. "Ha, it is! Would you look at that.  What could he be doing here? Doesn't he know that this is Landick territory? We're the ones in charge of this place!"

Moune crossed her arms. "I never really liked him anyway. Then again, I don't like Seaicks at all. I think they're worse that Skicks, and that's saying something!"

Agri nodded. "Ah. I agree. Something about him gets on my nerves. The farther we stay away from him, the better."

She placed her hand on his shoulder and grinned. "Good thing we don't have to work with him, right?"

"Right! We Landicks can do anything together - and better, too!"

Then they exchanged high-fives and went on their merry way.

Two

"I'm so tired!" Moune complained, plopping down on one chair and stretching her arms above her head. "We've been cleaning the whole day! I think it's time we should take some rest."

Hyde paused from mopping the floors, and pulled down his face mask. "For once, I agree with you."

The door opened, and in stepped Nozomu. "Wow! I've never seen this room so clean!"

"Hmph!" Moune crossed her arms. "I don't understand how you and your father can live like this, Nozomu! With all the dirt and the dust and--"

"Moune," Agri and Hyde chorused, with glares sent her way.

"I'm so sorry," Nozomu said. "It's just... we don't use this room as much. And Otoosan's--"

"Don't worry, Nozomu!" Alata placed his hands on the child's shoulders and smiled. "We're happy we can live with you here."

"That's right!" Eri added. "Besides, we're having fun cleaning anyway! Right? Right?"

Moune rolled her eyes, and Agri had to elbow her to say, "Right, right."

"Still..." Then Nozomu brightened. "I know! Why don't I treat you guys for ice cream? Like... a thank-you for cleaning?"

Eri squealed happily. "I love ice cream!"

Hyde smiled. "That will be nice."

"Ah. I could use one myself," said Agri.

"Mm!" Moune said.

"You're so kind, Nozomu!" said Alata.

"Don't worry about it!" Nozomu said with a smile, as he walked towards the door. "So, I'll let you decide which three will get a treat from me, okay?"

Silence.

"Just... three?" Moune asked, crestfallen.

"Mm. I only have enough money saved for three."

And while Nozomu was getting his money, the five formed a circle and said, "Rock, paper, scissors!"

Five minutes later, and Alata, Eri, and Agri were declared the winners.

"This is the worst day of my life!" Moune cried, whereas Hyde just shook his head and promptly went back to cleaning.

Three

"I'm bored," Moune announced, and unfortunately only Hyde was around to hear it. "Hyde, what are you doing?"

"I'm trying to think of updates I can perform on Datas," he replied, smiling a little at her. And because he knew she'd say no, he asked, "Do you want to help me, Moune?"

Predictably, she drew her brows together and said, "But that's boring! Besides, what do I even know about updating Datas? That's more your experties, Hyde!"

He nodded and went back to work, assuming that that was the end of the conversation.

...except Moune proved him wrong. "Say, Hyde. Do you want to go out for ice cream?"

Instantly, he stiffened. Hyde was reminded of how, because of Agri, he had consumed much shaved ice that ended up nearly freezing his brain earlier that week. It was painful and unpleasant and not something he wanted to relive again.  "No," he said, rather quickly and loudly. "Sorry, Moune, but I really need to finish updating Datas."

"...I understand," she said, shrugging. "Next time, then."

He nodded. "Next time." Only he had no intention of there ever having be a next time.

Four

"...you have already apologized to me, Moune," Hyde said, fighting the urge to smile at her. "Really. I think it's enough."

"I know," Moune said. "Still, I can't help but feel bad about what I did - I really shouldn't have doubted you, or thought that you didn't care for Datas." She planted her hands on her hips, mock-pouted and declared, "So if you want to make me feel better, then just... accept my offer and let me repay you in some way!"

He sighed, and appeared to think about her offer. "Very well. Perhaps we can go and walk around, and if there's anything I like--"

They both were surprised when Moune's Tensouder sounded, and Agri's aggravated voice came from it. "Oy, Moune! Where are you? I've been waiting here for almost thirty minutes! If you're not here in five I will--"

"Ah!" She hid the Tensouder in her jacket, muffling Agri's angry tirade. Her eyes were wide as saucers as she said, "I forgot! Oniichan and I were supposed to train today!"

This time, Hyde laughed and placed a hand over her head. "You should go," he said, "before Agri gets even madder."

She nodded and waved at him. "Sorry, Hyde! I guess I'll just have to treat you some other day!"

Five

It had almost been a year since Burajira's defeat, and the Angels' decision to stay on earth albeit separately. Moune had flown down to a site near the beach, deciding that running would be a great way to start her day, when she spotted a familiar person crouched down and apparently taking samples of the water.

"Hyde!" she called, running towards him.

He looked up in surprise, before standing and smiling at her. "Moune! What are you doing here?"

She gave him a brief, enthusiastic one-armed hug before drawing back. "Training, what else?" Moune replied. "And you? Still studying?"

Hyde nodded and said, "That's why I chose to stay, after all. And I can definitely say that I've learned a lot about earth and its many and diverse lifeforms."

"You should take a break," she said. "Ah, I know! You could come with me for a visit! I'm sure Oniichan would like to see you too. I could even cook for us!"

He must admit, the idea of spending time with old friends had its appeal. "Just as long as you don't cook too much."

"Hmph!" she said, glaring at him. "Spoken like a grumpy old man."

Then they locked eyes and laughed like old times.

Hehe, thank you! And Moune is definitely awesome. She's my favorite!

You are my hero, lady! You made my dream come true at least twice :D :D :D

How can I even get started, so I can give a proper comment as to how much I appreciate this new piece of jewel? Guess I'll split in parts.

#1: Nice choice for the first reason! Bringing up Moune's initial character trait would definitely have to be included in why she wouldn't go with Hyde for a treat. She had made it quite clear about her thoughts on Seaicks back in Epic 1, and in making coffee for anyone other than her brother hadn't even crossed her mind at all when the story began. Maybe that destruction of the Tower of Heaven was a "necessary evil", or the Landick siblings might have never seen the strength from either the Skicks or the Seaicks :)

#2: LOL, LOL, and LOL. Our story was just beginning here, and already we see quite clearly who's the child and who's the old man :P Though at that point, you wouldn't have to be kodomo or ossan or Eri to enjoy some ice cream! Hehe, but would you see their luck. And even their reactions here sort of mark what they would be as the story continues :P

#3: ZOMG Moune asked him out! [SMACK] Okay, okay, she was bored and wanted to do something to escape from boredom. And her teammate was there, so it was only fitting that she would want to take him with her because company is always nice when you're fighting boredom. You had me crack up by bringing up the shaved ice episode. One can only imagine his trauma, considering all the cold and icy nightmare he had to go through because of that Yuuma beast. Will he ever get over it? Hmm, maybe one day he will.

#4: Have I mentioned how much I love you? I SO wanted to see a fic that revolves around Epic 42! This is my favorite episode involving Hyde/Moune, even more than Epic 14. People might disagree with me, but IMO Hyde plays a very important part in causing Moune to grow up, which is the main point about her character. I really wish to see Hyde's point of view on Moune for this one, someday. Back then he was way too taken with Datas to even think a thing, IMO, but still, would there have been no thought at all? Who knows.
With all that said, of course, even if this Datas incident had caused Moune to take one step further towards adulthood, she's still Moune. I could totally see her thinking that words of apology aren't enough; she's all about works, not so much about words. In such a case, it's only plausible that she'd insist to treat him to something. Oh, I would have loved to see those two going out for said walk. Even if it'd not be technically a date... it'd still be cute and fun and all that.
But LMHO, she forgot Agri! SHE FORGOT HER BROTHER IN HER QUEST TO TREAT HYDE! LOL, LOL, and more LOL! (I love you, Agri, I really do)

#5: Ah, and what better way to conclude by bringing something post-story :) Each have gone their way to continue their quests and carry out their duties. Moune has grown so much from when we first met her. Unlike the kid we first met, she is ecstatic to see her Seaick teammate again. However, very much like our favorite Landick girl, she is still not into things that bore her (say, studying lifeforms...), is still striving to become stronger, and can still call Hyde an old man. Of course, this last part, is no longer without some sort of fondness. A very sweet piece. I wonder what Moune cooked? ;)

Overall, I enjoyed reading this so much. Thank you for writing it! :D

HOLY CRAP YOUR COMMENT IS ALMOST AS LONG AS THE FIC! ILU ♥

Hee, I'm glad you enjoyed them! I really wanted to have the five ficlets depict them from different parts of their arc, because I also enjoyed the evolution of their friendship :P As for fics on Epic 42, my third person sample (http://community.livejournal.com/ddd_news/9542.html?thread=2209094#t2209094) for my application at DDD is all about that. Call it a prequel to number four :D
