I can't stop writing about them. SERIOUSLY. Thus I present:
Title: Submissive
Pairing: Megumi/Nago
Fandom: Kamen Rider Kiva
Spoilers: None, pre-series and full of assumptions on how these two met.
Summary: Nago Keisuke was used to having people either cow in fear or bow in awe of him. That was, until Asou Megumi.
--
Nago Keisuke was used to having people either cow in fear or bow in awe of him. Such were the usual reactions he got from men and women, which only reinforced his belief that everything he did was correct, while others who strayed from his methods were wrong and, therefore, deserved to be punished. He was known as someone who could and would do no wrong in the eyes of the law.
Any person brave enough to question his actions usually suffered a chilling fate. No one - not even his own father - could stand it when Nago Keisuke's stare bore deep into their eyes to see the dingy filth of their souls.
That was, until Asou Megumi.
Who seemed to be unaffected by him or his chilling glares.
"Him?" she asked, carelessly jerking a thumb towards his righteous person. "Him, Shima-san? Really?"
Nago remained still; only a slight furrowing of his brows indicated his great surprise. This person was a woman. Women tend to be submissive around him, fearful even. So... why..?
Shima paused in the middle of his weight-lifting, glanced at Nago and Megumi, then resumed his exercise without a word.
The shameless woman - Nago had already classified her as an 'unknown entity' by now - walked around him, looking him up and down with her high heels clicking tauntingly against the floor tiles. He could feel her disapproval - which was another surprise, since he usually disapproved of people first.
Not that he cared in any way.
"I don't really see why we need to recruit anyone else," she continued loudly, pausing to stand directly in front of him. "I've managed to prove myself over and over again, Shima-san. I can handle the Fangires." She smiled, somewhat maliciously. "I'm enough for this organization, don't you think?"
The woman had a loud, brazen mouth indeed. Nago pursed his lips, then answered with, "No."
Shima coughed.
The Asou woman straightened and frowned at him. "What did you say?"
"It's a simple question," Nago told her, folding his arms. "You asked if you were enough. The answer is 'no'. And that's why I'm here." He cocked his head to one side. "It was easy to deduce that. There was no need to ask in the first place."
Shima coughed, louder this time.
She turned red in the face and sputtered, "Why you arrogant little-- who the hell do you think you are, anyway?"
"He is Nago Keisuke," Shima answered for him. He took a white towel and dried his face with it. "The Fangire activity has increased dramatically within this past few months. You know this, Megumi-kun. You need a partner."
Megumi glared at the old man. "No, I don't."
Acting as if she hadn't spoken, Shima placed a hand on Nago's shoulder - making him stiffen even more. "His qualifications are unquestionable, his techniques unrivaled. You'll find that he is an asset to us, and an even greater help to you in dealing with Fangires in the field."
"Didn't you hear me? I don't need anyone, most of all him!" Megumi threw her hands gracelessly in the air. "I can deal with anything alone! Of course, though, I can do a whole lot better with IXA and--"
That caught Nago's attention. "IXA?" he asked, earning a swift dark look from her.
"Don't get your hopes up," she said harshly. "It's mine. And if Shima-san can only give it to me--"
"We're still in the stages of upgrading it," Shima answered, moving to another exercise equipment. He paused, as if thinking hard. "Your weapon is enough for Fangires. IXA will only be released once we can verify that Kiva is again on the move."
Interested, Nago actually stepped forward. "This IXA," he said, "can it put a stop to Kiva once and for all?"
Megumi snorted. "You really don't know anything, do you? It's a wonder anyone would actually consider you as my partner!" She turned to the other man. "Shima-san, is this a joke?"
Shima sighed. "Megumi-kun--"
This time, Nago had reached his limit. "Do you even know who you're talking to?" he asked, in a voice dangerously low - a warning in itself.
Her eyes widened, and her hand flew to her mouth. "Oooohhh," she said, and Nago felt intense satisfaction - until, of course, he realized that she was only mocking him. "Ooooohhh I'm so scared." Then she rolled her eyes. "Of course I do. Everyone knows who you are. Which makes you even more, oh I don't know - arrogant? Annoying? Take your pick."
"Megumi-kun--"
"I now understand why IXA is not yet given to you," Nago told her, his hands balling to fists. "Only a fool would entrust something as powerful as IXA into the hands of an amateur. Please stop--"
"Amateur?" In one swift move, Megumi had managed to point a small, silver pistol at his face. She smiled again, though her eyes were hard. "You want to call me that again, Nago-kun?"
"Enough!" Shima swatted Megumi's pistol away and stood in between them. "I make the decisions, and it's been decided that you two are going to work together. No use complaining, Megumi-kun! Your mother never did."
Curiously, despite the rebellious glint in her eyes the woman closed her mouth and remained silent.
"Good. Now for your first assignment--"
"Why don't you tell him what to do, Shima-san?" Megumi said sweetly. "Tell him everything he wants to know, and then some. Because I quit!"
And with that, she turned on her heels and marched right out of the room.
Shima scratched his head.
Nago was very angry this time - as evidenced by his need to blink fast and repeatedly. He had never, in his entire life, been treated as he had just been - and by an amateur such as her! "Is this a prank, Shima-san?" he asked, rather quietly. "Is she really an agent of this organization?"
"Yes, she is. You have to forgive her, Nago-kun." Shima shook his head. "The girl has just lost her mother. She is emotionally unstable right now - which is why I hired you."
There was a cruel irony in that statement - but Nago was not going to let a chance to destroy Kiva pass him by. Not when he was this close to his ultimate goal for justice! "Then tell me what to do."
Shima glanced at him. "All right. I'll give you your first task."
Nago raised a brow, waiting.
"Your job... is to convince your partner to come back."

Have you guys watched EP 27? OMG MAY I JUST POINT OUT THAT MEGUMI WAS LOOKING AT NAGO THE ENTIRE TIME (THOUGH SHIMA WAS THERE) AND NAGO ACTUALLY WAS GOING TO CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY THAT MEGUMI DIDN'T DO THE CRIME. Although he's a jerk for not believing her in the first place.
Nago? Considering/thinking about someone NOT doing a crime? UNBERIBABOR!
AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE OTOYA OR WHOEVER YOU ARE, PLEASE BE TALKING ABOUT MEGUMI WHEN YOU ASKED NAGO ABOUT HIM FALLING IN LOVE WITH A WOMAN. PLEASE.

HAHAHAHA OH GOD I CAN SEE IT.
Your Nago voice is perfect. ♥ Half the reason I haven't written much Kivafic is because Nago's voice is so difficult to pin down but this is so him, from the way he thinks of Megumi as "the Asou woman" to his casual assurance that she'd be submissive to him. ♥ ♥

Lately I scrap all the Kivafic I write because though I love the characters, getting their voices as spot-on as you did in this fic is difficult.

As much as I love the characters, I can only stay in Megumi and Nago's heads, I'm afraid. I don't think I can ever write for the other characters, especially Wataru and Otoya - and I don't know why :X

Just wanted to say I enjoyed reading this, and at the risk of repeating things, I think you really get Nago's characterization down perfectly. Your Megumi is good, too, but I get a feeling that she wouldn't swear so easily? Anyway, that's such a little thing (perhaps 'hell' isn't a swear word these days, and Megumi gets mad and becomes sunny again so quick anyway) so maybe you should ignore me.
I've never exactly identified myself as a Nago/Megumi shipper, but I think I love this pairing the most among the many possibilities in this series. (Though I'm content to just let them snark at each other. Sad that I might lose interest if they actually do get together and become all starry-eye romantic.)
Anyway, thanks for sharing your fic. :)

YES! I love the little things they're doing right now, but if ever they get too mushy, that's when I'll be turned off by this pairing as well :D
Thank you! I do love writing from Nago's POV - this was my first attempt and I'm glad you liked it. About Megumi swearing... hehe, I guess it's a fic-habit of mine; regardless of who it is if a character of mine is angry he/she tends to swear a lot :P
