Plurk and tumblr are quite different--tumblr is more of another form of blogging service than anything else. Plurk is kind of like twitter in that the messages you can send are limited to 140 characters, so it's kinda like SMS, only anyone can see it, unless of course you have a private account. I've stopped using Plurk now since I don't find it as appealing as twitter. I use twitter to follow my friends and the news, and if you have a favorite author/celebrity/whoever, they most likely have their own twitter. :D
I've had all three (including twitter), so I'm quite familiar with them. I guess if Livejournal's a journal, tumblr is used more as a scrapbook. You can reblog something you've seen in another tumblr account with just a press of a button. It can get quite addicting at first since most tumblrs are used to spam post pretty pictures, but then the novelty of it wore off for me.
And is it weird that I have tried almost every social networking site there is but have NO Facebook account? XD
